TOPIC: A WET WOOD 6: REMAIN IN JESUS

Memory Verse: Prov. 26:20
“20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;  And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.”

Bible Reading: John 15:5-8
“5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who  abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for  without Me you can do nothing.
6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
Apostle Paul said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.
He who abides in Christ Jesus, (who is the vine), can make all things happen (through Christ). We are part of Christ if we will surrender to Him. We boldly quote this scripture and things are still hard for us to achieve. We decree and declare but the devil is not moved. We pray and fast and we keep waiting without a sign from God, that means, something is not right somewhere. Are we still with the vine?
He who abides in Jesus, Jesus will abide in Him and every of his/her request will be granted by God the Father who has responses to all request. Abiding in Jesus is what produce fruit not experience or mentor’s instruction but abiding in Christ. Not head thinking but abiding in Christ. Every branch without a fruit is cut down by God, the vine dresser, Jn. 15:1.
Are you being removed or prunes by the vinedresser? When men gives up on you there is hope, but when God gives up on you, you are done. Hope over-familiarity with Jesus has not made you forget Him as your Lord and Saviour? Hope your education has not blindfolded you to the strength of Jesus? I mean, your success, has it made you think Jesus is secondary in your life? Has your past record made you see Jesus as a nobody since you have the fame already? God still need branches that will produce fruit. Are you available for him? “For Without me (Jesus), you can do nothing”. Remain in Jesus, don’t be carried away by your accolades, because, He is the reason behind it all.

TOPIC: A WET WOOD 5: DEAD WOOD CAN SPROUT AGAIN

Memory Verse: Prov. 26:20
“20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;  And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.”

Bible Reading: Job 14:7
“For there is hope for a tree, If it is cut down, that it will sprout again, And that it’s tender shoots will not cease.”
Our God is Merciful in all His way. He is “The Alpha and Omega”, ” The Beginning and  End” – Reve. 1:8,11. He decides and Re-decide and None can stand against His decrees, this is who our God is and even more. He forgives and forget. God does all in His power not to loose any soul to the devil except those concluded to be for the devil. The Lord will always find means of saving His children, even when we wouldn’t listen, He doesn’t give up on us easily. When we refuse to listen to His voice, He may cut us off, but, still He is waiting if we will realize ourselves and come back to Him.
Job said, “For there is hope for a tree, If it is cut down, that it will sprout again, And that it’s tender shoots will not cease.”, yes God will attend to the dry or wet wood that He cut down in anger if they will relocate their steps back to God.
Verse 9 said, “9 Yet at the scent of water it will bud, And bring forth branches like a plant.”
God is the only water that can make the wood, tree bud again. Samson was an example of a dry wood which was cut down by the Lord, when he realized his mistakes he cried to God and his wood sprout again and defeated his enemy finally.
Are you feeling God has cut you off after disobeying His instructions? May be your gifts are not glorifying God anymore or people now prefer someone else to you? It’s time to go back to God, He is the only water you need to sprout your tree back to life again. He hasn’t given up on you that’s why you are reading this Devotional today. Have you mesmerized your marriage, jilted your spouse and you feel it’s over for you? No, there is second chance for you, go back to God. May be as a child, you’ve brought shame to your parent which made them lay curses on you? Your tree can still be fruitful again, God is waiting for you, lower your pride and do the needful.
Father of all mankind, we seek for forgiveness for any reasons that might have caused you to cut us down, we plead for your Mercy today, as the prodigal son, we return to you Oh Lord, accept us and give us another chance in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

TOPIC: A WET WOOD 4: DRY WOOD CAN ALSO BE CUT DOWN

Memory Verse: Prov. 26:20
“20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;  And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.”

Bible Reading: Math. 3:8-10.
8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,
9 and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have  Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
10  And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”
We have discussed about a wet wood and we are discussing about a dry wood. Wet wood are woods which are not useful to God at a particular time, which means, they can still become a dry wood and will be available for God’s use. Dry woods are those available for God, they are working presently, carrying out their duty in their respective places. But some of these dry woods are been carried away by activities, tasks and human strength, leaving God Himself behind. We talked about eye service yesterday, but they are not doing eye services, they are rendering their services but they are not producing fruits.
John the Baptist, was speaking to those who thought they’ve known it all, He explained that, it’s not the activities that matters it’s the productivity. You may be a dry wood or tree at your duty post but your behaviour to others  is not saving a soul, it rather sends them away, that is very dangerous. Many thinks being discipline is to be strict and not bendable, that is very wrong. Being a vessel of God makes you bend your doctrines for the sake of winning a soul to God. Men’s principles are not to suppress God’s mission, winning soul.
The axe has been laid to the root of that tree, to be cut down. God is giving a warning to someone reading this Devotional today to trace your path back to God. Not activities but productivity.  Not being too physical about your services but also being conscious of the spiritual. Are you one of the woods to be cut down? Have you left God behind in your endeavours? Can you please seek redress this morning and ask him for forgiveness of sins and change your behaviours? If people run from God because of you you are that wood to be cut down. Read, think it through and take the right steps this morning. I pray for everyone this morning, that, we will not be full of activities but productivity in Jesus Mighty Name, May we not be cut down from our duty places in Jesus Precious name, Amen.

TOPIC: A WET WOOD 4: HONOUR VESSEL

Memory Verse: Prov. 26:20
“20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;  And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.”

Bible Reading: 2 Tim. 2:20.
“20 But in a great house there are not only  vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor.
21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good  work.”
In this dispensation of the Holy Spirit, we Christians has become so judgemental and being led by eye-service and wealth even in our churches. Most times our focus is far from the focus of God. We have turn the word of God which says, “The righteous shall live by faith” to “The righteous shall live by sight and experience”. We keep looking up to some set of people has the “honour vessel” and relegated some as “dishonour vessel” just by sight and not by faith. We focus on the gold and silver most time and neglected the wood and the  clay in the house of God.
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21  Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
The house of God is full of diverse of Honorable vessels (in diff capacity). Everybody is important and valued regardless of how we all look like. That someone has no silver or gold (wealth) doesn’t mean he/she is useless in God’s house. The truth be told, most silver and gold vessels are not that active like the clay and wood vessels in the sight of God because the material is not what God is after, it’s the ability to be an honoured vessel, that’s what God is after. The heart and not the eye service, availability for the master’s use is what qualifies a material not the make of the material. Those people you see as wood and clay in your place of worship, work and environs might be real vessel of honour to God.
The question is this, Are you that vessel of honour? Not just the wood, clay, silver or gold but are you a honourable vessel in God’s hand? God is still in search for honourable vessels, for the field is ripe for harvest, can He find you? Are you a vessel unto honour or dishonoured? Stop looking down on others and focus on being the honourable vessel, either you are a wood, clay, silver or Gold. Just be a honour vessel.

TOPIC: A WET WOOD: WET WOOD CAN STILL GENERATE FIRE

Memory Verse: Prov. 26:20
“20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;  And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.”

Bible Reading: 2 Chro. 7:14
“14 However, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, search for me, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear their prayer from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their country.”
As a wet wood, which discovered his/her irrelevancy, there can still be a way to be useful and become the burning wood on the altar for God. The important thing is to realize you are a wet wood and a wet wood can’t generate the required fire on the altar of God. Accepting this fact is the foundation to being useful to God. Realization of yourself, believing that you are not created to be who you are presently, accepting that, you are to be a vessel of honour in the hands of God.
“If my people”, meaning, those who knows me (God) though have been walking in their owns ways, not doing what I have decreed. You might be close to the altar but your heart is very far from the church. You’re being called His child but living as a servant. God said, if you will realize this by humbling yourself, come to Him and surrender, start a new life with God, make Him your controller then, He will change you from the wet wood to dry wood. He will rule and reign in you. You will become a vessel for His Glory.
You will have to change your thinking; your mindset, and then your focus will be on God and not on pleasing men. Your determination will be to show forth the Lord in your marriage, environment, ministry, place of work, with your colleagues and family. No one was and is created by God to be useless. There is a purpose for your life, that you’re yet to discover. God never created you to be a liability, No. Go back to Him, He will make you whom He created you to be. You can still be that dry wood burning for God on the altar. May God lead us through in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

TOPIC: A WET WOOD: WHO IS A WET WOOD?

Memory Verse: Prov. 26:20
“20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;  And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.”

Bible Reading: Leviticus 6:12
“12 And the fire on the  altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be  put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings.”
A Christian who is not available for the use of God can be term a wet wood; someone who finds it difficult to do the things of God, Who finds the Gospel irritating. If the word of God is a no go area for you, your spouse not enjoying your marriage, your boss not being satisfied with your services, all such  services may be regarded as wet wood. Someone who keeps finding fault in everything done in the church, places of work, family, who is not ready to lift a hand or to create a difference, you are that wet wood this message is referring to. You keep seeing the bad aspect of everyone but nothing  bad from your own side. You have never been a blessing to people around you neither have you bless anyone around, you are that wet wood. Everyone try to avoid you anywhere you are and you think it’s respect, sorry, you are that wet wood whom the dried wood is avoiding.
The priest, when making sure the fire on the altar keeps burning, search for a dry wood, an available wood, competent wood that will enhance the fire. He separate the dry from the wet wood. He select the available and useful wood in order to fulfill God giving instructions on the altar. When your boss prefer giving others your responsibility, check yourself if you are not that dried wood. When your spouse prefer an outsider for a home discussion, are you the dried or the wet wood? In your church, when others keep distancing themselves from you, it might be your bad influence that’s presenting you as a wet wood.
God is in search of dry wood who will be available for fire to be on the altar. Not just services in the house of God alone qualifies you to God but every areas of your life. Your family, work place, environment, place of worship, all these places is what determine the type of wood your are. Listen, God want us to live a life that will point people to Him and not a life that will point others to the devil. Which wood are you? Wet or dry wood?

TOPIC: A WET WOOD: WET WOOD KILLS FIRE

Memory Verse: Prov. 26:20
“20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;  And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.”

Bible Reading: Levi. 6:12-13
12 And the fire on the  altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it  every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings.
13 A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out.
Wood is the secret to a burning fire. Every fire needs a wood and not just any wood but a dry wood in order to produce the needed fire. No matter the numbers of wood if they are wet, they are useless in creating fire. So, for a fire to be effective a dry wood is very important that’s why you see our aged parents trying to park the wood away from the rain in order to enjoy effective fire. This is my question? Are you a wet wood or a dry wood?
God instructed Moses to let the priest know that there should be a constant fire on the altar. The priest need to get woods that can produce fire, it’s their duty to select a dry wood not just any wood, wet wood can’t bring constant fire on the offering altar. In order words, a wet wood is useless on the altar. It’s brings waste of effort, waste of time and kills the fire.
On the altar of Christianity, are you a wet wood? Do you keep the fire of God burning? Can your wood sustain the Spirit of God? I mean, can God trust you to extend His fire to others?
Lord Jesus, my desire is to be a dried wood that keeps the fire burning, so help me in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

TOPIC: WHILE WAITING ON THE LORD: BE SENSITIVE TO HEAR HIM SPEAK

Memory Verse: Ps. 40:1
“1 I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.”

Bible Reading: Judges 6:11-16
“11 Now the Angel of the LORD came and sat  under the terebinth tree which was in Ophrah,  which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his  son Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites.
12 And the  Angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
13 Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the LORD  is with us, why then has all this happened to us?  And where are all His miracles which our  fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the LORD  bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the LORD has  forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.”
14 Then the LORD turned to him and said, “Go in  this might of yours, and you shall save Israel  from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent  you?”
15 So he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”
16 And the LORD said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man”.”
God is always willing and ready to speak to us in our present situations. While waiting on Him, His word is the only response that can help us. He is available to speak to us but most times, we are carried away by our present situations that we couldn’t hear Him speaking to us. We are more focus on what we are going through than preparing to hear Him speak. May I tell you today, His Voice is all you need to hear, just be attentive to Him.
During the days of Gideon, the Israelites went through a lot in the hands of the Midianite.  They were all waiting for a new judge to deliver them from their enemy. Gideon thought all he could do was to hide the produce of their farms not knowing God has been waiting on him for a long time, but one day, he was so attentive to hear God speak to him and the waiting of the whole Israel came to an end. God did spoke to him, convinced him of whom he is and what he can do. More so, that he is with him in all his decisions.
Many of us are so busy to hear God speak to us. Some believe the Lord should speak to them in a particular way, others thought He should use someone else rather than who He is using. We can’t decide for God how He’ll speak to us, when He’ll speaks or who He is sending to us, all we need is to hear Him speak to us. His voice should be our earnest expectation. It should be what we are craving for. When we hear Him we find a way out of our waiting. When Gideon heard Him, waiting for a judge came to an end. I pray this morning, may we be able to hear and recognise His voice when He does speak to us is Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
An end will come for our waiting period in Jesus Precious Name. Be ready to hear His voice.

TOPIC: WHILE WAITING ON THE LORD 5: DON’T QUIT

Memory Verse: Ps. 40:1
“1 I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.”

Bible Reading: Job 14:14
“14 If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait, Till my change comes.”
Tough time never last but tough people do. Situations come and go. Challenges keep moving like a wind. Hard times comes and soon, all situations become softer, easier and relief steps in only for those who never quit. Winners never quit and quiters never wins. There’s a short story I will like to share about bed bug. “The mother bed bug was telling her children, when this people pour hot water on you, make sure you don’t move, be patient for a while and endure the pain, sooner, the hot water will become cold, and you will start moving again, the hot water always turn cold very fast if you can be patient”.
Job went through what no one has been through. He felt the hardest pain of life, loosing everything that gives one joy. From Grace to dry grass. From wealth to stinking poverty. He lost every forms of relationship from children, friends and wife but one thing he never did was to quit, to give up on God. Job said, “All the days of my hard service I will wait, Till my change comes”,  And the change came, God remembered him and turned the tides around because He never Quit.
I’ve been hearing of people committing suicide, going into rituals, becoming armed robbers, married women  going into extramarital affair because of delay in pregnancies, they all quited during the waiting period. There’s always a price to pay during the waiting period, ability to keep moving when the situation is hot because sooner or later, we will overcome if we do not quit. Don’t give up on God, God is not that wicked to leave you in that situation.
Father in the name of Jesus, help me not to quit, help me to with stand all forms of opposition coming my way till my waiting period is over in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen

TOPIC: WHILE WAITING ON THE LORD: BE A BLESSING

Memory Verse: Ps. 40:1
“1 I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.”

Bible Reading: 2 Kings 4:8-17
“8 Now it happened one day that Elisha went to  Shunem, where there was a notable woman,  and she persuaded him to eat some food. So it  was, as often as he passed by, he would turn in there to eat some food.
9 And she said to her  husband, “Look now, I know that this is a holy  man of God, who passes by us regularly.
10  Please, let us make a small upper room on the  wall; and let us put a bed for him there, and a  table and a chair and a lampstand; so it will be,  whenever he comes to us, he can turn in there.”  11 And it happened one day that he came there,  and he turned in to the upper room and lay down  there.
12 Then he said to Gehazi his servant, “Call this Shunammite woman.” When he had  called her, she stood before him.
13 And he said to him, “Say now to her, ‘Look, you have been  concerned for us with all this care. What can I do for you? Do you want me to speak on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the  army?’ ” She answered, “I dwell among my own people.”
14 So he said, “What then is to be done for her?” And Gehazi answered, “Actually, she has no son, and her husband is old.”
15 So he said, “Call her.” When he had called her, she stood in the doorway.
16 Then he said,  “About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my Lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!”
17 But the woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which  Elisha had told her.”
Waiting period is a sowing time. During this season you need to sow the seeds you still have with you in order to change your season. Many see that season as the season to expect from God and people alone. It’s a season to scatter your seeds abroad. No matter how your situation is, you still have a seed to sow.
The Shunamite woman was rich and honorable but remained in the waiting season for a child. In that season, she found out that Elisha needed from what she has, despite her condition, she gave it willingly and consistently to the servant of God. She gave Him a room, a bed, a chair, a table and a lamp. Elisha felt  the impact of the seeds and this propelled the spirit of God in Him to release the blessing of a child on her and it came to pass.
When you withhold what you have because of what you are searching for, you take the risk of loosing everything, or prolonging your waiting period. That act of kindness might be what the Lord is waiting for, for your season to change. Stop extending your waiting period, stretch your hand and heart to help those you can for God to change your season.
I pray with you this morning, that seed in your hands, will put an end to your waiting period in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen. Most needs you see in others is what God want you to meet, be helpful to others consistently.
