TOPIC: LESSONS FROM HANNAH

Memory Verse: Heb. 13:8
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”

Bible Reading: 1 Sam. 1:9-11
9 So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of the LORD. 10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish. 11 Then she made a vow and said, “O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will  give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”
MAKING VOW
Hannah was able to find an irresistible way to get her desire from God. She went to God after the usual mockery but with a different approach and made her request known to God. We will take some days to study about the dos and the don’t of vow. Today, our focus will be;
(a) BE SPECIFIC ABOUT YOUR VOW.
Hannah went to God with a direct and well detailed request. She was specific about what she wanted. She told God, (i) I want a male child, (ii) if you give me, i will give him back to you and (iii) no razor will touch his head.
How specific are you with your vows? God is ready to accomplish your request but He’s also interested in the specification of your request. Do you need a male or female child? 3 bedroom flat or 1 bedroom flat, what will be my glory when this request is granted? How will it honour me as God? What do you really need this for? And many more questions that we need to be specific about.
This specification was what affected Jephthah when making his vow, Judges 11:30-31. He wasn’t specific about his vow, either a human or an animal that come out of his door, but lo and behold, it was his one and only daughter, Judges 11:34-37.
Specification handles a lot about vow. Have you being making your vows right? Think on this for today, tomorrow we will continue on the topic vow.
Have a Great Day ahead.
