TOPIC: GOD, THE PROVIDER 6: RENEW STRENGTH WITH HIS PROVISION
Memory Verse: Is. 1:19
“19 If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land;”
Bible Reading: 1 Kings 19:3-8.
“3 And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.
4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, LORD, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!”
5 Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat.”
6 Then he looked, and there by his head was a cake baked on coals, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank, and lay down again.
7 And the angel of the LORD came back the second time, and touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.”
8 So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God.”
Every provision of God has a target. It’s for a purpose in our lives. God’s provision has different purpose per time per chance. His provision might be for sustenance, for increase in strength, to help meet others needs. The provision of God in the life of David was to save the nation from the Philistines. Joseph, to save his people from famine. Moses, to set his people free from the Egyptian, and many more, that provision has a purpose to fulfill.
This time in Elijah’s life, the provision was to renew His strength, to enable Him for the journey ahead, to keep him on his toe. Elijah felt he has no more power to handle the situation at hand. He fled for His life, left his servant behind and went a day journey. But the Lord came to renew his strength through two different meal, and said “Arise, eat for the journey is too great for you.” This provision was for strength renewer, and it took him forty days and forty night journey to the mountain of God.
When the purpose of God’s provision is not recognise misuse is inevitable. Every provision of God has an assignment in your life and to others. When God provided for the widow of Zarephath it was for the sake of Elijah’s sustenance and she was able to live with it also. Have you recognise the purpose of that provision in your life? Some of us have God’s provision to help God’s servant in ministry, other to help people in their place of work, some to help the less privilege. When you refuse to use the provision rightly, God can never be happy. Discover the purpose of that provision in your life. Not all provision is for your consumption, they have their purposes.
