TOPIC: STEPS TO DOUBLE PORTION 5: Learn And Study Your Elijah

MEMORY VERSE:
Is. 61:7

BIBLE READING:
2 Kings 2:12-14.
12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces.
13 He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan.
14 Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, “Where is the LORD God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over.”
As long as you are with your Elijah, learn as much as possible how He/She does things. Every challenges have different solutions but some might need similar application. Elisha must have Learnt by hearing of how Elijah restore the Zarephath widow’s son, 1 Kings 17:19-22, so He applied it to the Shunamite woman’s case (when her only child died and the boy was restored to life, 2 Kings 4:32-35). Every act of your Elijah is a lesson you need to learn and ask questions while you still have him/her around.
When Elisha cross river Jordan with Elijah, he never thought of crossing over alone because he saw and assimilated how Elijah did part the river. When He came to the bank of the River alone he replicated what Elijah did with the mantle he had received, which made the sons of the prophet say, “The power of Elijah has rested upon Elisha. You need to learn how your Elijah does things, his life style, His principles, and How He communicates with God daily. Stop being just an errand person, learn the act of doing things and you will continue where He stop and achieve a double portion.

2 Kings 6:31-33.
31 Then he said, “God do so to me and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of  Shaphat remains on him today!” 
32 But Elisha was sitting in his house, and the  elders were sitting with him. And the king sent a man ahead of him, but before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, “Do you see how this son of a murderer has sent someone to take away my head? Look, when the messenger  comes, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door. Is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?”
33 And while he was still talking with them, there was the messenger, coming down to him; and then the king said, “Surely this calamity is from the LORD; why should I wait for the LORD any longer?”
One big challenge we followers have with our Elijah is about their weaknesses, their mistakes and fault. Many accept and take every steps their master takes not minding if it were wrong or not. Elisha was a man who observed and studied Elijah and followed his footsteps but He quickly change from Elijah’s weaknesses.
When Elisha received double portion of Elijah’s power, the first thing he did was to lay curse on the children who called him baldheaded man which was what Elijah will do, 2 Kings 2:33-34. He quickly realised himself and made it the last of his mistake. Another privilege came for him to act like Elijah will do, instead, He called the elders to lock the door against the messages of the king, remember Elijah waited for the king’s messenger and rained fire on them, 2 Kings 1:7-14.
You don’t have to carry the weaknesses of your master with the double portion you received, separate his/her good habit from the bad habit. Know his fault and avoid it in your life. That your master acted wickedly doesn’t give you the right to do the same. Study to know his weaknesses and avoid it. The kingdom of Rehoboam was separated because he continued with his father, King Solomon, wickedness to the Israelite and Jeroboam, so therefore he lost ten kingdom to Jeroboam, 1 Kings 12. Avoid the mistakes of your master, don’t repeat it with the double portion.

2 Kings 2:1-6.
“1 And it came to pass, when the LORD was  about to take up Elijah into heaven by a  whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from  Gilgal.
2 Then Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here,  please, for the LORD has sent me on to Bethel.”  But Elisha said, “As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So they went  down to Bethel.
4 Then Elijah said to him, “Elisha, stay here,  please, for the LORD has sent me on to Jericho.”  But he said, “As the LORD lives, and  as your  soul lives, I will not leave you!” So they came to  Jericho. 
6 Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here, please, for the LORD has sent me on to the Jordan.”  But he said, “ As the LORD lives, and  as your soul lives, I will not leave you!” So the two of them went on.
Serve your Elijah without limit. Many served but not all served to the point of Double Portion. Many followers but not all earns the full reward of following.  Elisha singled himself out from the sons of the Prophet which qualified him for Double Portion of Elijah’s power. Apostle Peter was also a servant of Jesus Christ who served Him even when Jesus was arrested, although, he denied Jesus thrice but He was the only disciple who went with Him till the end, and He was able to become the Leader of the Apostles.
Elijah knew His time was up and tried to test who Elisha really was and he passed all the test, How? By going with His master. Following up with Him, moving to Bethel, Jericho and lastly Jordan, just like the word of our Lord Jesus, that He who endures to the end shall be saved, Math. 10:22. Elisha went with Elijah to the end and earned the double Portion of Elijah. How far can you go with your Elijah? Are you not selective with His assignment? Going the extra mile was the difference between the Sons of the Prophet and Son of Prophet Elijah. They all knew Elijah will be taking away but couldn’t go the extra mile with Him. Do the extra works, obey his foolish instructions, give the last might you have and the portion awaits you. Go the extra mile with your Elijah.

“21 So Elisha turned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them and boiled their flesh, using the oxen’s equipment, and gave it to the people, and they ate. THEN HE AROSE AND FOLLOWED ELIJAH, AND BECAME HIS SERVANT.”
The fastest way to Double Portion is serving your Elijah. Same way a son is not entitled to the will of the father when his service to him was not justified, so a servant who will not serve His/Her master can never inherit a Double Portion of blessing. Gehazi couldn’t serve His Elijah in the place of Elisha so he inherited leprosy for his generation, 2 Kings 5:27. Elisha couldn’t release power to Gehazi so, even at death the power was still active to raise a dead man back to life.
Many Christians today avoid service but wants benefit of double portion, it doesn’t work that way. Some ministers part way with their Elijah, all in the name of the gift in their lives, to start their ministry without been commissioned by their Elijah so things seems to be going the other way for them. All you need do is to keep serving your Elijah till the stage of Double Portion, may we not serve amiss in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen. Serve your Elijah, let others know who you are serving. Be committed to his/her goal to the point of fulfillment and you will partake of Double Portion destined for you in Jesus name, Amen.

2 Kings 19:19-21
“19 So he departed from there, and found Elisha  the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and  threw his mantle on him.20 And he left the oxen  and ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss  my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?”
21 So Elisha turned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them and boiled their flesh, using the oxen’s equipment, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then He Arose And Followed Elijah, And Became His Servant.”
God has predestined our lives to enjoy the Grace of some special people around us, that without us coming in contact with such people we may never reach our fulfillment in life. This connection mostly come in form of service. Leading the Israelite was more easier for Joshua than it was for Moses, but Joshua served under Moses. During Moses’ time, there were many confrontation with him by the Israelite but during Joshua dispensation they put their selves under an oath to serve Joshua wholeheartedly, Josh. 1:18. When you identify your Elijah, you are on your way to Double Portion, may we never miss our destined double portion in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
Elisha was able to recognize Elijah when he came his way.  Elijah only threw his mantle on Elisha without delivering any message from God and He came begging that Elijah should wait for him to bid his family good bye and he followed Elijah. Have you recognized your Elijah? Hope you are not among those who criticizes their Elijah and miss their portion for life? Who are you called to serve? Who are you serving? Many wants to be served but run from serving their Elijah. Locate your Elijah and cleave to him/her, there lies your double portion, may He open your eye to identify your Elijah in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

“3 And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of his father David, except that he sacrificed and burned incense at the high places.
4 Now the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place: Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.
5 At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?”
The attitude that God does not condole is murmuring, complain or better say, ingratitude. He can’t move with one that only complain of what God has not done or what he/she lacks. A complainer lacks the magnet that attract God to his/her side. One of the secret of David is the fact that, He knows how to show gratitude to God always. King David sinned more than other kings but He was a man who knows the way to the heart of God, showing gratitude.
King Solomon was a young new King of Israel. He went to God at Gibeon with the biggest sacrifice in history. He made sacrifice that caused God to search for Him and spoke with him. Listen, when all you do is to complain of what you are going through, am assuring you, you are not ready to walk with God. Gratitude to God brings God closer to us, He can’t dwell in a place full of grumbling, murmuring and ingratitude. Do you need to walk with God? Do you want to enjoy the move of the almighty? Learn to give God gratitude no matter the condition. He doesn’t speak during fear or complain, He speaks when He’s been praise, worship and adore. Learn the attitude of gratitude, don’t be controlled by your situation, control your situation by showing God gratitude always.

17 Sanctify them by Your  truth. Your word is truth.
If there is any weapon for  believers to make our walk with God easy, it’s the Word Of God – Bible. The word of God is the mind of God, whatever God will do, His word has the ability to do. God’s word is the presence of God residing with us as long as we have it in and with us. 
What His word will do.
1. His word cleanses and sanctifies us, John 17:17. To walk with God we need His sanctification. God  spoke to Moses, “tell my people to sanctify their selves and come before me.” To be sanctify means to be presentable before God.
2. He’s word reveals His mind to us, 2 Corinth. 2:16. When we study God’s word He speaks to us directly in a way we’ll understand.
3. God’s word are always instruction which lead us to our destined purpose, Ps. 119:105 & 130. 
To walk with God we need His word. We need to daily digest it in order to know His mind. Knowing the truth is via the Word of God. Until you read, study and digest it, the truth of God’s word will always be hidden, John 8:32. When you are far from God’s word you are automatically far from God. Get closer to God via His word and you will be glad you did. Read through a chapter a day and you will be refreshed and move closer to God.

TOPIC: WALKING WITH GOD 5: Walking By Faith.

MEMORY VERSE:
Genesis 17:1
“1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the  LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am  Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.”

BIBLE READING:
Hebrews 11:17-19.
17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, 
18 of whom it was said,  “In Isaac your seed shall be called,
19 Concluding That God Was Able To Raise Him Up, Even From The Dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.
To walk with God entails a working Faith. What is Faith? It is believing all will be well because God said it, even when it doesn’t look like it. Someone defines Faith in acronym, “Father, Am In Thy Hands”. Come to think of it, what was in the mind of Father Abraham when he prepared to sacrifice His only son? Our scripture said, “Concluding That God Was Able To Raise Him Up, Even From The Dead,” what if Isaac wasn’t restore, that He never thought of, that is faith. Faith is accepting the message without diluting it. 
When the three Hebrew boys, in Daniel chapter 3, stood before the King, and put their lives on a bet with the King, what if the fire consumed them? What if God never showed up? They will be called dead, but that thought never strike their mind, that is Faith, it doesn’t allow other thought to take over. 
When Peter and John were going to the temple of prayer at the beautiful gate in Acts chapter 3, they met a man born crippled from birth, by Faith they declare his healing. What if the man didn’t rise up and walk, they never thought of this. Faith involves Boldness, Authority and Obedience. To walk with God, you need to be able to obey God’s instructions foolishly and boldly declare His word. “If He says it, Just Do It,” that’s Faith. I pray this morning, may we all be able to walk by faith regardless of the situations around us in Jesus Precious name, Amen.

Genesis 17:1

Luke 22:40-42.
40 When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”  
41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed,
42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”
To walk with God means to hear Him, receive instructions and guidance from Him. To walk with God is to be fervent in prayers. Prayers has no specific time, place or types. Prayer is communicating with God, in any language which includes the language of the Spirit. Prayer is two ways channel which is, speaking to God and God speaking to you. A complete prayer is you hearing from God when you commune with Him.
If Jesus encouraged His disciples to pray and He also tarried in prayers, who then doesn’t need prayers? For every will of God, prayer is needed. When in confusion, prayer is needed. When all is well, prayer is still needed. The more we pray to God the more we know His will and walk with him. Someone may ask, How do I hear Him communicating back to me? For example, while praying scriptural verses may drop in your mind, or some persons name or location drops in your mind when you are not even thinking or focusing on such places or person, That is God speaking. While praying some ideas, instruction or correction may drop in your heart, stand up and pen them down, that is God’s voice, He does speaks but we are not always attentive or we take it for granted. God is willing to speak back to us when we speak to Him so, we need to pray to Him, ask Him to lead us, when we continue with this, our walk with Him will become easier, i pray we will be able to stand in the place of prayers in Jesus Mighty Name, amen.

Numb. 14:28.
“28 Say to them, ‘As I live,’ says the LORD, ‘just as you have spoken in My  hearing, so I will do to you:”
When we walk with God, the consciousness of His presence must be in our heart. The children of Israel knew God was with them, seeing all the miracles they’ve experienced right from the land of 
Egypt to the wilderness. Provisions of water, food, strength and unexpected act of God, despite all these, they lack the consciousness of controlling the words of their mouth. When situation arises, they spill out hurting words to God’s servant. They speak carelessly without considering God’s presence around them. Every child of God, who desire to walk with God, consistently needs to guard their utterances. When speaking to others and themself, watch what you are saying because God can seal it at once.
He told Moses, “I heard the word of the Israelite, they spill out fear, destruction and disbelief in Me, so therefore, I’ve made it their request and it shall come to pass as they’ve said (Personal paraphrase). 
When our mind is renewed, and our thoughts has been worked on, the words that should come out of our mouth should be edifying. It should be a word that heals and not word that wounds. God expect everyone who will walk with Him to guard the words of their mouth, towards their children, spouse, members, ministers, coworkers and loved ones. What you don’t desire do not say it. Stop speaking fear, negative words and faithless words because God is right beside you. Bridle the word of your mouth daily, have control on what you say and your walk with God will be great.
