“15 And the LORD said to Moses, “Why do you cry  to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.  

16 But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst  of the sea.”

It is very good to pray about situations which we Christians see as the only solution to our challenges but we become tired when answers are not coming forth. We become weary and begin to loose faith in God and before you know what, we are down spiritually and physically while all we need do is to act as we pray, Yes, we act as we pray to God. God can’t do all things for us, meaning we have our roles to play before any success is recorded. For a student praying to God for a better result, he will have to read no matter what God will do. For a woman praying for the fruit of the womb, she must be with her husband not just fasting from one mountain to another. You are praying for promotion but you are the best late comer, you avoid responsibility and you want Him to promote you? That is an unanswered prayer in the waiting. You have your part to play in everything you are praying for.

Despite the faith of Moses in God, he was still crying to God and He responded “Tell them to move forward”, in other words, as you are praying you need to act along, stop waiting for God’s response before acting. As you pray be sensitive on what to do. Don’t just sleep around doing nothing, hoping for a baritone voice of God. Think on what you can do as you are praying, it might not be God delaying your responses but your attitude. Act along as you are praying and stop folding your hands.

“5 If any of you lacks  wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all  liberally and without reproach, and it will be  given to him.

6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;

8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

When we ask men for Help or assistance, there’s always this thought of he/she might not do what we’ve asked of. We quickly remember if he/she has helped someone before or if they’ve turned us down in time past. But that is not like God, He is a promise keeper, covenant keeping God who answers prayers of faith and grant request with expectations. When we appear before God it shows we acknowledge His Power, His Grace and His ability to do all things. That idea that ‘He may not do it because of any reason’ is from the devil, the accuser of the saint, but God can do anything as long as we ask in faith and according to his Will for us.

James said, a double minded person can’t get answers from God because he is doubting the ability of God and this can cause more delay of God’s response. When you have prayed, do you still go around complaining about the issue or begin to profess your faith about it? When we pray in line with the will of God concerning us , all we need do is to believe God has done it. You don’t go about doubting if God will stop that barrenness, if God will give you a spouse, if that job will become a reality, if you will overcome that sickness, if you will ever scale through that examination, stop doubting and start believing, that’s all God wants from us, Complete Faith in Him. Stop the doubt and start believing.

“3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.”

We pray, ask and make request to God but nothing to show as our response because we ask amiss, ask wrongly for our self glorification. There’s a saying in our local palace, ( a Yoruba adage), “A child who says, when he’s grown up, he will build a story building and spit on everyone who passed by his house, the destiny of those people will never allow such a child to achieve his aim.” Likewise, when the reasons for your request is  not aligned in God and to his work, it will remain a prayer point and not a reality come what may. Why do you make those request from God? What’s your intention of having those responses? God knows what we will become if he releases all our answers, many will have nothing to do with God, some will be destroy and killed by that same request and some will use it against God’s kingdom. In such case, God will never release such answers until our aims are changed to please God.

The wealth you are asking of God how do you intend to use it? To impress or suppress others? To frustrate your spouse and become a philanthropist to outsiders? What are those prayer points meant for? God is the beginning and the end of all things. He knows who and what we will become if those request of ours are granted. Take a deep thought over your request, is it to glorify God? If yes, be in expectation but if No, sit down and stop praying amiss. God can do all things except what will work against His purpose. Let your request glorify God and the response will become a reality.

“6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and  supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”

BIBLE READING:

Isaiah 59:1-3.

“1 Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened,  That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear.

2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden  His face from you, So that He will not hear.

3 For your hands are defiled with blood, And your fingers with iniquity;  Your lips have spoken lies, Your tongue has muttered perversity.”

This week we will be focusing on “Reasons for Unanswered Prayers”. Yes we pray, we seek the face of God but it seems God is not responding nor showing any signs of hearing our prayers. Today, we will start with the first reason which is Sin. I will encourage you all to give diligent time to study Isaiah 59 from verse one to the last verse. Many things seems to be right to us today which God sees as sins. Most importantly is how we use our month, speaking lies as if it’s normal. We think it’s smartness to deceive others by saying what we will never make attempt to do. We call it wisdom or some times white lies, all these are sin. God is against it. Most times we finish from the presence of God and start sinning right from the service, God is seeing it all. We sometimes believe fornication, adultery, stealing and anger are what is regarded as sin, it’s beyond that brethren. When you promise and failed intentionally it’s a sin. When you commit to do something and later turned the person down, it’s a sin.

The scripture says, God’s ear is not too heavy to hear us, neither is His hand too short to save us but we pray in sin, live in sin and eat in sin. Killing for money, revenge or inheritance are all sin. Going after other women/man when you have yours it’s a sin. Deceiving others to punish them is a sin. With these attitude and more, God’s ear will be turned away from one, I pray this day, may you receive grace to overcome that sin standing against your prayers in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen. Search for that sin in your life and work against it by all means and God will release your respond to prayers.

“But My servant Caleb, because he  has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I  will bring into the land where he went, and his  descendants shall inherit it.”

To be different from the crowd you need a different spirit like that of Caleb. A Different Spirit is a positive Spirit, Spirit of Faith, spirit that is in tune with the Spirit of God. Caleb could see what others couldn’t see even in the mist of confusion. The Spirit in him rejected the report of the crowd and held onto what God can do. The crowd only have the spirit controlled by the physical, but Caleb was controlled by a different Spirit. To be successful in this world we need that different Spirit. When Jesus was leaving He promised His disciples power that will differentiate them from the rest of the world. He promised us the Holy Spirit which will single us out wherever we are, this is the different spirit to overcome the world. How do we receive this Spirit? By accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and saviour, after then, we will receive the Holy Spirit of God, the different Spirit to separate us from the crowd. If you have receiver this Spirit, put it to work by asking Him to lead you and you will start living a new life. If you haven’t received the power, wherever you are, give your life to Jesus, accept Him as your Lord and Saviour. Let Him rule over your life and ask for the Holy Spirit to rest upon you. God is not that stingy to withhold His Spirit from anyone who ask.

“26 And the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron,  saying,

27 “How long  shall I bear with this evil  congregation who complain against Me? I have heard the complaints which the children of Israel make against Me.

28 Say to them, ‘As I live,’ says the LORD, ‘just as you have spoken in My hearing, so I will do to you:

When we live by the crowd we expose ourselves to the wrath of God. It’s very difficult for the crowd to walk with the Lord because they are the people who believed they know it all and are wise in their sight. The crowd will always walk opposite to God’s leading and when you belong to such crowd, you may be expose to the anger of God. To avoid this, we need to separate ourselves from them by being guided by God.

The children of Israel was a good example of this. When the Ten spies came with bad report, the crowd believed and opposed the leading of God but Caleb and Joshua stayed put to their faith in God. The crowd attracted God’s anger and He pronounced the curse of death on them. Hope you’ve not been walking with people bringing the wrath of God upon you? Are you not being led away from your rightful place by the crowd? Hope your marriage issue is not as a result of advise from the crowd? It’s not too late, you can move away from the crowd, you can change your ways and run to the Lord’s side by doing what is right from now on. Don’t attract the wrath of God because of the company you keep. Be vigilant to know when the crowd is dragging you into God’s anger.

5 So he brought the people down to the water. And the LORD said  to Gideon, “Everyone who laps from the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set apart by himself; likewise everyone who gets down on his knees to drink.”

6 And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people got down on their knees to drink water.

7 Then the LORD said to Gideon, “By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, every man to his place.”

Only God knows us all. Nothing is hidden before God because everything is plain in his sight. The crowd may be boosting, expert in what they do, well experience but the truth is that, many of them are weary, they are tired and worn out, they only pretend to be brave. Many of them feels “What Will People Say If I Turned Back?” Because a lot looks up to them but they are also tired.

God told Gideon, this ten thousand people are still much for me to gain myself victory, there are still men who are weary but I will show you how to differentiate them. He gave Gideon an Instruction and led them to the river. The wearied ones went down on their knee while the braved ones cupped water with their hands. How well do you know the crowd you are following? Even in the church, they are present. In our place of work, among our friends, our environment. They always prove they know it all, they can do it all but they are crowd filled with weary men. Be vigilant not to be a victim of the crowd.

2 And the LORD said to Gideon, “The people who  are with you are too many for Me to give the  Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim  glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand  has saved me.’

3 Now therefore, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and afraid, let him turn and depart at once from Mount Gilead.’ ” And twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained.”

God knows who we are inwardly no matter how we proved to be outwardly. He knows how fearful men are and how scared we can be. The crowd is filled with fearful people who flock around little courageous once, but God knows the heart of men. They might prove to be courageous, strong and selfless but they are not what they proof to be within.

God told Gideon to make the announcement that the fearful and afraid ones should go home and let the courageous remain and twenty-two thousand warriors left the camp to return home out of thirty-two thousand. The fearful hides within the the little brave warriors. How will you feel if those leading you are fearful people? You are on your own. You can’t see their heart nor know their fears but they remain in the crowd leading you without courage. Be yourself and let God lead you to where you are destined to be. Stop following the bunch of fearful people in your marriage, business, carrier and spiritual life. The crowd are full of fearful people who pretend to the stronger. Be informed. Stop following the crowd.

.”6 But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son  of Jephunneh, who were among those who had  spied out the land, tore their clothes;

7 and they spoke to allies the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: “The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land.

8 If the LORD delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows  with milk and honey.’

9 Only do not rebel against the LORD, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the LORD is with us. Do not fear them.”

10 And all the congregation said to stone them with stones. Now the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of meeting before all the children of Israel.”

When we speak about crowd, we are not excluding the church, as a matter of fact, the church is the starting point. Many members are Fact driving and not Faith driving. Some comments from strong member at times makes you think, “Is He a Christian?” Why? Because they are guided by what they see not what is yet to come. The crowd focuses on what is real now and not the yet to come, God is always excluded from their discussion that is why it’s easy for a member to say, “He’s preaching about me.” When you walk with the crowd your thinking is narrow to what you can see and not faith base. 

Joshua said to the remaining ten and their flock, 

“8 If the LORD delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, …” But they wouldn’t listen because they saw giants in the land, they were moved by sight and not by Faith in God. You need to check what is leading your mind, Fact or Faith? Is God included in that counsel? Check the crowd you are flocking with, that may be the limitation between you and your destiny. The righteous will live by Faith.

“30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses,  and said, “Let us go up at once and take  possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”  

31 But the men who had gone up with him said,  “We are not able to go up against the people, for  they are stronger than we.”

32 And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land  through which we have gone as spies is a land  that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature.

Moving with the crowd most times come with bad report. The crowd always have the strength to agree on whatever they want but their decision most times reveal their weaknesses. They end up giving a bad report. When you are in such circle they decide what happens to you, dictate how you live your life and help you see less of you. The crowd are always selfish in their decisions, they only put their selves into consideration and not others. They think negative than being positive. They see reasons why things can’t be done rather than seeing the possible side of it. They are good at suppressing your ability.

Moses sent twelve spice to the land of Canaan but  the multitude, the ten, came back with bad report, all they saw was negative rather than being positive, their bad report infiltrated the Israelites and discouraged the whole assembly. When you’re around them your reasoning is low and negative, you think of reasons why things can’t be done. You don’t need to be with the crowd, be the Caleb of our time who will stand out for positive report, who saw the other side of the situation. Be positive to be different from the crowd.
