TOPIC: OUR RESPONSIBILITY 5: TO OUR FAMILIES MEMBERS

Memory Verse: Roman 13:7
“7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.”

Bible Reading: 1 Tim. 5:8
“8 But if anyone does not provide for his own,  and especially for those of his household, he has denied  the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”
You are not just a member of that family, you are there for a purpose. As a man or a woman, that family is your responsibility. You have a duty to fulfill. You are to impact that household of yours not to be a burden. You have a responsibility to carry out in that family of yours.
“8 If anyone doesn’t take care of his own relatives, especially his immediate family, he has denied the Christian faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” GW Version.
Your responsibility to your family is not all about finances or sending the children to school, No, it goes beyond that. The above version said, “If anyone doesn’t take care of his own relatives”, Upbringing of children, relating well with your family members, Teaching them respect and the way of the Lord is what the verse is talking about not just providing food on the table.
1 Sam. 8:1-5
“1 Now it came to pass when Samuel was old  that he made his sons judges over Israel.
2 The name of his firstborn was Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah; they were judges in  Beersheba.
3 But his sons did not walk in his ways; they turned aside after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.
4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah,
5 and said to him, “Look, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.”
Many said Prophet Samuel failed not because of money but he couldn’t train his children well, Yes that’s true. But may I ask, where was Prophet Samuel’s wife when He is on duty? Doing mama mission? Wife of the prophet? When your husband is out, can you provide good character for the children? When the wife travels, will the children be in the hands of a good character provider at home? What are you providing for your family? Just money for food and chocolates? That’s the situation of the rich men. They lavish only currency on their children and they ended up becoming an addicted drug Baron. As a responsible member of that family, what has been your responsibility? You are in that family to make it better not to make it worst. Be responsible to your family.

TOPIC: OUR RESPONSIBILITY: TO OUR SPOUSE

Memory Verse: Roman 13:7
“7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.”

Bible Reading: Eph. 5:21-28.
“21 submitting to one another in the fear  of God.
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
24 Therefore, just as the  church is subject to Christ, so let the wives  be to their own husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also  loved the church and gave Himself for her,
26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the  washing of water by the word,
27 that He might  present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.”
Our next responsibility goes to our spouse, your Husband/wife. That man/woman you decided to live with, deserves some responsibility. Jesus, the husband to the church, loves the church regardless of her fault. The church derailed, misbehaved falls into diverse sins but Jesus, the Husband, still loves the church, so likewise, the husband has responsibility to overlook the shortcoming of the wife. It’s His responsibility to love the woman come what may, make sacrifices on her behalf and be a watch over her.
For the wife, every woman should know that, Jesus is the husband to the church so, the church can’t dictate to Jesus on what to do but can make request. The church submit to the leading of Jesus over her. Church can’t lead Jesus, it’s not possible, the church submit totally to Jesus which is the reason for diversity between church and Jesus presently. Every wife is to submit to the leadership of the husband. The mistake that we see in some homes is making the wife the head because she is the bread winner, No. Can the church be in charge of Jesus? Can the  church, with crowd of five million soul, direct Jesus to pray to her? It’s not possible, so, no matter how blessed a wife is, it’s to the glory of God and the glory of her husband. These are the responsibilities of the husband and the wife. They live together, share together, endure together,  enjoy together, reason together and make their secrets remain secret. They are to honour and respect one another. It’s their responsibility to protect and watch over their selves.
When one fails in his/her responsibility, it’s goes a long way to discourage the other. How responsible are you to your spouse? Do you find means of settling an argument or you keep finding whose fault it is? Be responsible to your spouse as the church and Jesus are responsible to each other. God bless you.

TOPIC: OUR RESPONSIBILITY: TO OUR PARENT

Memory Verse: Roman 13:7
“7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.”

Bible Reading: Ex. 20:12
“12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the  LORD your God is giving you.”
Most times, our responsibility is what determines the best of our lives. We might be serving God day and night, praying for servant of God and still be lacking the blessings of parent. God works with principles and all His principles are interwoven.
2 Chronicles 20:20, said,
“20 So they rose early in the morning and went  out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they  went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”
To be establish is linked to your responsibility to God. Your prosperity depends on your responsibility to God’s servant but to live long is attached to responsibility to your parent.
When you are responsible to your parents, such as  listening to them,  taking care of them, blessing and meeting their needs, you are bringing to fulfilment the above scriptural portion by increasing your days on earth. The scripture never give reasons why we shouldn’t honour our parents. Your both parent is to be honored. You shouldn’t honour one and dishonour the other. You have to honour both. Many of us talk to them the way we desire. Address them as a kid, that is not our responsibility to them. We have to give them the honour due to them.
Let me say this, the honour that belong to parents shouldn’t be giving to God’s servant. Many take care of God’s servant and neglect their earthly parents. It’s God’s instructions for us to honour and obey them always, this is our responsibility. We need to obey God fully.
Eph. 6:1-3
“1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is  right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the  first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be  well with you and you may live long on the earth.”

TOPIC: OUR RESPONSIBILITY: TO GOD’S SERVANT

Memory Verse: Roman 13:7
“7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.”

Bible Reading: Heb. 13:17-18
“17 Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give  account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.
18 Pray for us; for we are confident that we have a good conscience, in all things desiring to live honorably.

It’s a new week for us all in Jesus Precious name. Yesterday, we discussed about God being the first person we are responsible to. We were made to know that, we need to love the Lord, with all our heart, our soul and our strength. (Link for yesterday Devotional can be found below today’s message link).
Today, we are looking at the next person whom we owe our responsibility. They are God’s servant, Pastors whom the Lord set over us spiritually. Most often, we expect them to be Perfect and Holy men of God, who should have no  weaknesses, Yes. May I let you know, that can’t be possible without our own responsibility which is first, to pray for them. Apostle Paul made the request severally, to pray for them,
2 Thess. 3:1-2
“1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as  it is with you,
2 and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and  wicked men; for not all have faith.”
1 Thess. 5:25
“25 Brethren, pray for us”
Christians criticizes God’s servants most times. We focus on their mistakes and propagate their faults but never lift our voices to hand them over to God. God’s servants sees our weaknesses, keeps them from other children of God but we see their faults and publicize it, they deserve our prayers and not criticism. We owe them that responsibility. We need to protect them with our prayers and not damage them.
Secondly, it’s our responsibility to also obey and be submissive to them, Apostle Paul said,
“Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.” Our unsubmissive can lead them to do wrong as we all know they are human and can still be controlled by the flesh. We need to obey and submit to them as an encouragement. They may make mistakes but that should not be the reason to neglect their instructions.
It’s our responsibility to also respect them.
1 Thess. 5:12-13
“12 And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,
13 and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among  yourselves.
We owe God’s Servant these responsibilities for their work to be productive in our lives and for God. We shouldn’t be too judgemental but be prayerful, Obedient and Respect them, that’s our responsibility. May God help us to do these in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

TOPIC: OUR RESPONSIBILITY: LOVING AND SERVICING GOD

Memory Verse: Roman 13:7
“7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.”

Bible Reading: Deut. 6:5
“5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”
This week, we will be discussion about “Our Responsibility” which will cut across every areas of our life. In life, God should be first in everything. There’s no area of life that God shouldn’t be involved. When God is not involve, struggles are inevitable. I pray with you today, God will never be excluded in your life in Jesus Mighty Name.
God was revealing the responsibility of the  Israelite to them. He said, “you have to love the Lord your God with all your Heart, with all your Soul and with all your strength”. It’s our responsibility also to love the Lord wholehearted, what do I mean?  If You can’t sacrifice your heart, your soul and your strength to God, you are not fulfilling your responsibility to God. When there’s something in your life that you can’t let God have, you are not responsible enough to God. When you have some certain things you can’t release to God, you are not loving Him as expected. So therefore, it’s our responsibility to love God with everything He has bless us with.
Ex. 23:25
“25 “So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.”
Secondly, serving God is our responsibility. If men will not serve God who will? Will the animal stand to preach to human being? No one will stand to listen. So, if we will not respond to serving God we are denying Him our responsibility. When duty is not met reward is not deserved. Fulfilling these responsibility to God is what brings the attached promises to past in our life. How responsible are you to God?

TOPIC: A WET WOOD 6: REMAIN IN JESUS

Memory Verse: Prov. 26:20
“20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;  And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.”

Bible Reading: John 15:5-8
“5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who  abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for  without Me you can do nothing.
6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
Apostle Paul said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.
He who abides in Christ Jesus, (who is the vine), can make all things happen (through Christ). We are part of Christ if we will surrender to Him. We boldly quote this scripture and things are still hard for us to achieve. We decree and declare but the devil is not moved. We pray and fast and we keep waiting without a sign from God, that means, something is not right somewhere. Are we still with the vine?
He who abides in Jesus, Jesus will abide in Him and every of his/her request will be granted by God the Father who has responses to all request. Abiding in Jesus is what produce fruit not experience or mentor’s instruction but abiding in Christ. Not head thinking but abiding in Christ. Every branch without a fruit is cut down by God, the vine dresser, Jn. 15:1.
Are you being removed or prunes by the vinedresser? When men gives up on you there is hope, but when God gives up on you, you are done. Hope over-familiarity with Jesus has not made you forget Him as your Lord and Saviour? Hope your education has not blindfolded you to the strength of Jesus? I mean, your success, has it made you think Jesus is secondary in your life? Has your past record made you see Jesus as a nobody since you have the fame already? God still need branches that will produce fruit. Are you available for him? “For Without me (Jesus), you can do nothing”. Remain in Jesus, don’t be carried away by your accolades, because, He is the reason behind it all.

TOPIC: A WET WOOD 5: DEAD WOOD CAN SPROUT AGAIN

Memory Verse: Prov. 26:20
“20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;  And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.”

Bible Reading: Job 14:7
“For there is hope for a tree, If it is cut down, that it will sprout again, And that it’s tender shoots will not cease.”
Our God is Merciful in all His way. He is “The Alpha and Omega”, ” The Beginning and  End” – Reve. 1:8,11. He decides and Re-decide and None can stand against His decrees, this is who our God is and even more. He forgives and forget. God does all in His power not to loose any soul to the devil except those concluded to be for the devil. The Lord will always find means of saving His children, even when we wouldn’t listen, He doesn’t give up on us easily. When we refuse to listen to His voice, He may cut us off, but, still He is waiting if we will realize ourselves and come back to Him.
Job said, “For there is hope for a tree, If it is cut down, that it will sprout again, And that it’s tender shoots will not cease.”, yes God will attend to the dry or wet wood that He cut down in anger if they will relocate their steps back to God.
Verse 9 said, “9 Yet at the scent of water it will bud, And bring forth branches like a plant.”
God is the only water that can make the wood, tree bud again. Samson was an example of a dry wood which was cut down by the Lord, when he realized his mistakes he cried to God and his wood sprout again and defeated his enemy finally.
Are you feeling God has cut you off after disobeying His instructions? May be your gifts are not glorifying God anymore or people now prefer someone else to you? It’s time to go back to God, He is the only water you need to sprout your tree back to life again. He hasn’t given up on you that’s why you are reading this Devotional today. Have you mesmerized your marriage, jilted your spouse and you feel it’s over for you? No, there is second chance for you, go back to God. May be as a child, you’ve brought shame to your parent which made them lay curses on you? Your tree can still be fruitful again, God is waiting for you, lower your pride and do the needful.
Father of all mankind, we seek for forgiveness for any reasons that might have caused you to cut us down, we plead for your Mercy today, as the prodigal son, we return to you Oh Lord, accept us and give us another chance in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.

TOPIC: A WET WOOD 4: DRY WOOD CAN ALSO BE CUT DOWN

Memory Verse: Prov. 26:20
“20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;  And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.”

Bible Reading: Math. 3:8-10.
8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,
9 and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have  Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
10  And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”
We have discussed about a wet wood and we are discussing about a dry wood. Wet wood are woods which are not useful to God at a particular time, which means, they can still become a dry wood and will be available for God’s use. Dry woods are those available for God, they are working presently, carrying out their duty in their respective places. But some of these dry woods are been carried away by activities, tasks and human strength, leaving God Himself behind. We talked about eye service yesterday, but they are not doing eye services, they are rendering their services but they are not producing fruits.
John the Baptist, was speaking to those who thought they’ve known it all, He explained that, it’s not the activities that matters it’s the productivity. You may be a dry wood or tree at your duty post but your behaviour to others  is not saving a soul, it rather sends them away, that is very dangerous. Many thinks being discipline is to be strict and not bendable, that is very wrong. Being a vessel of God makes you bend your doctrines for the sake of winning a soul to God. Men’s principles are not to suppress God’s mission, winning soul.
The axe has been laid to the root of that tree, to be cut down. God is giving a warning to someone reading this Devotional today to trace your path back to God. Not activities but productivity.  Not being too physical about your services but also being conscious of the spiritual. Are you one of the woods to be cut down? Have you left God behind in your endeavours? Can you please seek redress this morning and ask him for forgiveness of sins and change your behaviours? If people run from God because of you you are that wood to be cut down. Read, think it through and take the right steps this morning. I pray for everyone this morning, that, we will not be full of activities but productivity in Jesus Mighty Name, May we not be cut down from our duty places in Jesus Precious name, Amen.

TOPIC: A WET WOOD 4: HONOUR VESSEL

Memory Verse: Prov. 26:20
“20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;  And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.”

Bible Reading: 2 Tim. 2:20.
“20 But in a great house there are not only  vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor.
21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good  work.”
In this dispensation of the Holy Spirit, we Christians has become so judgemental and being led by eye-service and wealth even in our churches. Most times our focus is far from the focus of God. We have turn the word of God which says, “The righteous shall live by faith” to “The righteous shall live by sight and experience”. We keep looking up to some set of people has the “honour vessel” and relegated some as “dishonour vessel” just by sight and not by faith. We focus on the gold and silver most time and neglected the wood and the  clay in the house of God.
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21  Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
The house of God is full of diverse of Honorable vessels (in diff capacity). Everybody is important and valued regardless of how we all look like. That someone has no silver or gold (wealth) doesn’t mean he/she is useless in God’s house. The truth be told, most silver and gold vessels are not that active like the clay and wood vessels in the sight of God because the material is not what God is after, it’s the ability to be an honoured vessel, that’s what God is after. The heart and not the eye service, availability for the master’s use is what qualifies a material not the make of the material. Those people you see as wood and clay in your place of worship, work and environs might be real vessel of honour to God.
The question is this, Are you that vessel of honour? Not just the wood, clay, silver or gold but are you a honourable vessel in God’s hand? God is still in search for honourable vessels, for the field is ripe for harvest, can He find you? Are you a vessel unto honour or dishonoured? Stop looking down on others and focus on being the honourable vessel, either you are a wood, clay, silver or Gold. Just be a honour vessel.

TOPIC: A WET WOOD: WET WOOD CAN STILL GENERATE FIRE

Memory Verse: Prov. 26:20
“20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;  And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.”

Bible Reading: 2 Chro. 7:14
“14 However, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, search for me, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear their prayer from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their country.”
As a wet wood, which discovered his/her irrelevancy, there can still be a way to be useful and become the burning wood on the altar for God. The important thing is to realize you are a wet wood and a wet wood can’t generate the required fire on the altar of God. Accepting this fact is the foundation to being useful to God. Realization of yourself, believing that you are not created to be who you are presently, accepting that, you are to be a vessel of honour in the hands of God.
“If my people”, meaning, those who knows me (God) though have been walking in their owns ways, not doing what I have decreed. You might be close to the altar but your heart is very far from the church. You’re being called His child but living as a servant. God said, if you will realize this by humbling yourself, come to Him and surrender, start a new life with God, make Him your controller then, He will change you from the wet wood to dry wood. He will rule and reign in you. You will become a vessel for His Glory.
You will have to change your thinking; your mindset, and then your focus will be on God and not on pleasing men. Your determination will be to show forth the Lord in your marriage, environment, ministry, place of work, with your colleagues and family. No one was and is created by God to be useless. There is a purpose for your life, that you’re yet to discover. God never created you to be a liability, No. Go back to Him, He will make you whom He created you to be. You can still be that dry wood burning for God on the altar. May God lead us through in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
