TOPIC: LESSONS FROM HANNAH

Memory Verse: Heb. 13:8
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”

Bible Reading: 1 Sam. 1:12-17.
“12 And it happened, as she continued praying  before the LORD, that Eli watched her mouth. 13  Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips  moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore  Eli thought she was drunk. 14 So Eli said to her,  “How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away  from you!”  15 But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord,  I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk  neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have  poured out my soul before the LORD. 16 Do not  consider your maidservant a wicked woman, d  for out of the abundance of my complaint and  grief I have spoken until now.”  17 Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace,  and the God of Israel grant your petition which  you have asked of Him.”
MEN OF GOD ARE HUMAN
Being called “Man of God” or being called by God doesn’t mean He is a spirit or can’t commit error. First, He is human before being acknowledge / called a Man of God. They can’t be in the spirit 24/7, it’s not possible because they also have blood and water running through their veins. Many focus on the mistakes of Men of God and thereby misses their blessings. Many criticize God’s servant for revealing their human nature which should not be.
Hannah took her mind away from the way Prophet Eli approach her situation. Her response of detailed information to the Man of God perfected her request from God. Prophet Eli realises He was wrong and helped to seal up the request of Hannah. The same Servant of God who rebukes you, corrects you or even embarrassed you might still be the same vessel to bring about your establishment, don’t judge them according to their human nature. They are still vessel in the hand of the Lord. Understand their mistakes, accept their differences and be patience to receive your blessings from them like Hannah did. Don’t be led astray by their mistakes because, they are human.

Memory Verse: Heb. 13:8
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”

Bible Reading: 1 Sam. 1:15-17
15 But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk  neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD. 16 Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and  grief I have spoken until now.” 17 Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which  you have asked of Him.”
SOFT ANSWER
Prov.15:1
1. A soft answer turns away wrath,  But a harsh word stirs up anger.
If you were to be in the position of Hannah, how would you have answered Prophet Eli? What would have been your response? Despite the situation Hannah found herself, she never held grudges, bitterness, or gave negative response to the prophet’s comment. She softly gave the correct answer to the insultive question from the prophet.
In your bitterness, how do you handle such situations? Will God be praised from your response? Hannah would have missed it all that day, thinking of her childlessness, the mockery from her step wife and now, a comment about her being a drunkard from a Man of God, but in all, her response was softly with details and she received the Lord’s blessing.
We need to control the way we answer others, no matter our condition, because it might be our final test before our expected manifestation. Soft answers open doors while harsh answers can lock all doors. Be guided.
Have a Great Day ahead.

TOPIC: LESSONS FROM HANNAH

Memory Verse: Heb. 13:8
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”

Bible Reading: 1 Sam. 1:9-14
“9 So Hannah arose after they had finished  eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the  tabernacle of the LORD. 10 And she  was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish. 11 Then she made a vow and said, “O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will  give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.” 12 And it happened, as she continued praying  before the LORD, that Eli watched her mouth. 13 Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips  moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk. 14 So Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!”
BE FOCUS
Hannah was a focus woman. She was determined to get her desire met by the Lord. Nothing was going to stand between her and her request. She went in to pray, prepared her mind against any distraction and the distraction was even from a man of God, Prophet Eli. While praying, the man of God was watching and concluded she was drunken.
Many might not know what you are going through. They might be saying alot about  your life, be focus on God and not on their opinion. Man can’t be trusted. They can stand by you now and stand against you some minute later. Eli was suppose to have known Hannah and her predicament on before then. He wasn’t suppose to rebuke Hannah the way he did. He called her a drunkard but Hannah was not ready for that, she was focus with her request.
Stop being carried away by people’s opinion about you. Remain standing with God as Hannah did. Yours might not be a pastor, may be your spouse, friends, parent or siblings, whoever or whatever the discouragement might be, remain focus with God. Your testimony will be announced in Jesus Mighty Name.
Have a Great Day ahead.

Memory Verse: Heb. 13:8
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”

Bible Reading: 1 Sam. 1:9-11
“9 So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of the LORD. 10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish. 11 Then she made a vow and said, “O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will  give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”
MAKING VOW
We’ve talked about
(a) Be Specific About Your Vows.
(b) Be Personal About Your Vows.
Today, we will be focusing on,
(c) Documenting Your Vows
There’s a saying that goes thus, “The faintest pen is sharper than the sharpest Brain”. Whatever you document can’t be forgotten. Many made vows and are willing to pay, but couldn’t remember the specific or the vow itself. When you document your vows, it remain in your brain and a document. If you later forgot, one day you will storm at the document.
God doesn’t joke with our vows, he told Jacob, in Gene. 31:13, to go back to the place he made a vow to Him. We may forget our vows but God won’t forget it. So the best way to fulfill our vows is to document them when we made them because God will always finish his part and men will also need to fulfill their parts, so, document a your vows.

MAKING VOW
We discussed about “Being Specific About Your Vow” yesterday. Today, let us move ahead.
(b) Be Personal About Your Vow.
It is very wrong to commit others in your vows. Hannah was lucky that her son, Samuel, was able to accept her mother’s costly vow. Jephthah was also lucky he had a child who could comprehend. What if those children rejected their parent’s vow? What if they replied their parent with, “you made the vow, pay it yourself.”?
Don’t commit others in paying your vows. Make a vow you will remit yourself without involving others. Thank God for Elkanah who understood the plight of Hannah, the scripture said in, Num. 30:6-8, that, if a man void his wife’s vow, it is cancelled, the vow shall not stand. Before making your vow inform whoever needs to be Involved before committing yourself and others because all vows must be paid.
Make a vow you can remit conveniently. God is not after the size but the genuineness and faithfulness to the vow. After Hannah fulfilled her vow more children came through her. Make a vow you alone can remit without involving other party. See you tomorrow, still on vow.
Have a Great Day ahead.

9 So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh.
MAKING VOW
Hannah was able to find an irresistible way to get her desire from God. She went to God after the usual mockery but with a different approach and made her request known to God. We will take some days to study about the dos and the don’t of vow. Today, our focus will be;
(a) BE SPECIFIC ABOUT YOUR VOW.
Hannah went to God with a direct and well detailed request. She was specific about what she wanted. She told God, (i) I want a male child, (ii) if you give me, i will give him back to you and (iii) no razor will touch his head.
How specific are you with your vows? God is ready to accomplish your request but He’s also interested in the specification of your request. Do you need a male or female child? 3 bedroom flat or 1 bedroom flat, what will be my glory when this request is granted? How will it honour me as God? What do you really need this for? And many more questions that we need to be specific about.
This specification was what affected Jephthah when making his vow, Judges 11:30-31. He wasn’t specific about his vow, either a human or an animal that come out of his door, but lo and behold, it was his one and only daughter, Judges 11:34-37.
Specification handles a lot about vow. Have you being making your vows right? Think on this for today, tomorrow we will continue on the topic vow.

Memory Verse: Heb. 13:8
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”

Bible Reading: 1 Sam. 1:6-10.
“6 And her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because the LORD had closed her womb. 7 So it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat. 8 Then Elkanah her mhusband said to her,  “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?” 9 Soñ Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the  tabernacle of the LORD. 10 And she  was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish.”
TURN THE MOCKERY TO MOTIVATION
Mockery can be convert to motivation. It can propel your mind to change your story. As criticism leads to publicity, mockery can also lead to inspiration. Most times, mockers reveal your weaknesses and way out of them to you. They force you to come out of your shell to dare the unbearable. Stop seeing the mockery but see through it.
Peninnah’s mockery propel Hannah to go to God in a different way and approach the situation with different idea. Hannah might have tried all other means but the mockery forced her to try vow which produces the needed result.
Think through the mockery and find the way out. Stop crying for been mocked, start utilizing the mockery to your advantage.

Memory Verse: Heb. 13:8

“6 And her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because the LORD had closed her womb. 7 So it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat.”
STOP THE MOCKERY
Do you belong to the party of mockers? Are you good in making jest of others weaknesses or challenges? May be gossiping is your hubby? Stop being a mocker. Stop mocking the pain you’ve never been through. Stop laughing at others, yours might be worst.
Peninnah was a wife to Elkanah also. She was blessed with children in the same marriage but felt nothing wrong in mocking her step wife, Hannah. The scripture said, she did these consistently to her year by year till she wept.
One good thing about God is that, He is a rewarder of every seeds sown. Math. 7:12, says, “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
Peninnah never knew she was sowing seeds to be reaped later. She mocked Hannah because she had no children, but the Great Rewarder rewarded her also in folds after many years, 1 Sam. 2:5, Hannah said,
“5 Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, And the hungry have ceased  to hunger. Even the barren has borne seven, And she who has many children has become feeble.”
Don’t mock the pain you’ve never experience. Stop defining the situation you don’t understand, rather pray along with them. Hannah mockery came to an end. None of peninnah’s children was ever mentioned in Bible but Samuel became a Major Prophet in the hand of the Lord. Learn from Peninnah’s story, stop the mockery.

RUN TO GOD
Hannah knew Elkanah loved her. She did also. She knew he could do anything for her. He has proofed it again and again. But she realises that, this man also has  limitations. There are things he can’t do. In our days, in-laws would have sent her packing, tagged her names. Mother in-law would let her know she was the problem not the man, which was right.
She realises the limitation of her husband and ran to the real one who has no limitations, The God of Israel. Just like the widow of the servant of prophet Elisha ran to the Prophet which symbolizes God. She would have seek for solace in a friend, parent or involved in extramarital affair but, she ran to God and she was never disappointed.
When all things seem bad, who do you run to? When your trust in men fail, who do you turn to? The scripture said,
“10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish.”
Stop running to friends who will advice you wrongly, seek for God’s servant. Cry to God in your closet.
Jere. 33:3, says,
“3 ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’’
Run to God for help not to me.

Memory Verse: Heb. 13:8
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”

Bible Reading: 1 Sam. 1:4-8
4. And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions: 5. But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb. 6. And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb. 7. And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat. 8. Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?”
HUMAN HAS LIMITATIONS
Where our focus is, determines our expectations. I will like you to know that, no human has the intentions of disappointing anyone but power beyond human reasoning is the reason behind all forms of neglect and reproach. Elkanah so much love Hannah the best way a man can love his wife. He was always by her side whenever she remembered she was childless. Her husband will always give her a worthy portion not according to the portion she deserves. Elkanah could say to his wife that, he has done more than what ten children will do for her but in all these; there was a limitation for Elkanah in the life of Hannah, he couldn’t put an end to her barrenness. I pray for you today, where the limitation of men ends in your life, God will intervene in Jesus Mighty Name, Amen.
Your parent has  limitations. Your spouse has limitations and you also have your limitations. We can’t do it all alone. There is the place of God in every situation. After you’ve tried your best, commit all things to God who has no limitations. Stop attacking people for neglecting you or not doing more than they’ve done. It’s only Jesus who can stand by you and can’t be limited with situations. Everyone has a last bus stop of help, knowing this, makes you know who to turn to when things are not working. Immediately Hannah knew this, she took the right step and was not disappointed. By the power in the name of Jesus, we will be able to discern when men reaches their limitation in our lives in Jesus Mighty name, Amen.
